Contemporary approaches to the study of host-parasite interactions: an introduction.

چکیده
Elucidating the biochemical basis of host-parasite relationships will be instrumental in the success of biologically based control in agriculture. This challenge is an ambitious one, but several central themes emerge regarding the roles of both parasiteand host-derived molecules. These include their contribution to nematode attraction, recognition, and reproduction as well as the response of plant hosts. Identification of the gene products involving such fundamental biological processes as nematode behavior and sex determination, although not usually considered as direct participants at the host-parasite interface, will also expand our knowledge of host-parasite interactions and provide alternative strategies for pest management. The complex nature of plant-nematode interactions and the obligate parasitism of many phytopathogenic nematodes have combined to hinder progress on elucidating mechanisms involved in events such as feeding site initiation and plant responses. With the adoption of molecular biology techniques to plant nematology, new lines of research have been opened in these areas. Rapid advances in understanding the basic biology of the free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans will most certainly ease the tasks that lie ahead. Arginase Activity and Its Effects on Pathogenesis of Leishmania
Leishmaniasis is a tropical parasitic disease that has become a major health challenge in many countries of the world. Not only has not been found any effective vaccine or treatment for the disease eradication, but also the advent of drug resistance is also increasing. Therefore, it is vital to take a precise attention to the physiochemical cycles of the Leishmania parasite and to identify i...
متن کاملCarcinogenicity and Anti-tumoral Effect of Parasites: A Review Study
In endemic areas, some parasitic infections may be related to cancer induction or induction of immune responses against cancer. In some cases, parasites cause disease in their host, and in other cases, they reach a biological balance with them. Parasite invasion of the host depends on some factors such as parasite species, life cycle, enzyme production, and host immunity. The results of various...
متن کاملHost–Parasite Interactions in Human Malaria: Clinical Implications of Basic Research
The malaria parasite, Plasmodium, is one of the oldest parasites documented to infect humans and has proven particularly hard to eradicate. One of the major hurdles in designing an effective subunit vaccine against the malaria parasite is the insufficient understanding of host-parasite interactions within the human host during infections. The success of the parasite lies in its ability to evade...
متن کاملAssessment of aquatic environmental quality using gyrodactylus sp. as a living probe: parasitic biomonitoring of ecosystem health
Biological indicators are species that can be employed to monitor environmental quality and ecosystem health. Different groups of organisms such as plants, animals, bacteria and parasites regularly produce certain molecular signal in response to changes in their environmental milieu. Parasites are important tools for providing wealth of information on physicochemical quality, environmental stre...
متن کاملParasite community dynamics in an invasive vole – From focal introduction to wave front
Multiple parasite species simultaneously infecting a host can interact with one another, which has the potential to influence host-parasite interactions. Invasive species typically lose members of their parasite community during the invasion process. Not only do the founding population escape their parasites, but the rapid range expansion of invaders once in the invaded range can lead to additi...
